Beach #4 is just off 101 between Kalaloch and Ruby. You park and hike down a gigantic cliff. It is a steep climb back up but I tell you that the best beaches we have visited have been the ones you have to hike in and out of. What was most shocking about this beach was the surf. The beach itself is steeply inclined and the waves are just huge and crazy as the crash into the beach. I was totally reminded of my childhood visits to beaches in CA like Morro Bay where the waves were just crazy the way they were here. It was fun to watch them crash crazily into the sand and you did not have to walk very far out to be over your head in the water.

Another bonus of beaches at the bottom of cliffs is that virtually no one is around. When we arrived, the last of the people there were just leaving and we had the beach sunset to ourselves.

Mark jumped right in to fish and caught several fish very fast but all were thrown back. He caught one fish that had a smaller fish in it's mouth. That fish ended up not edible and it swallowed the hook so Anna happily buried it on the beach. The flopping tail didn't bother her a bit.
This beach did not have tons of driftwood like Ruby does so it was harder to start and keep the fire going. There was a lot of very interesting yellow rock there pictured left in the above photo. The trail excavators used it as stairs to the beach.
Because the waves were so crazy here, we did not allow Anna to go in but she happily busied herself in the sand, watching and waiting for her Dad's fish, and playing with Bush Woolly.
Bush Woolly busied himself digging trip holes for the next people to come to visit. This dog will dig himself to China if you let him.

The big kids had a blast playing in the waves and didn't seem to notice that the sun was going down, it was about 60 degrees out, and they didn't bother to bring a change of clothes after they dried off.

We didn't walk out to these rocks but it definitely looks as if you can get there during any tide time. I imagine that there are stars there though. It looks like it is a long and invigorating walk to get to them from the trail but I am up for it.
As for me, I captured it all on a disk in between enjoying the waves, making sure the kids didn't drown, watching the dog, playing with Anna, and waiting on Mark who was playing the fish lottery.

As we are all sitting around the beach fire, we hear this whooping and hollering from the oceanfront and Butch tells us that Mark got one. Of course I go running with the camera to capture the moment.

Time to get warm.
Someone chased the birds...
