Bud Update - Crumbling Hooves

I rode him up to the house the other day and for the first time ever, he actually walked up the big hill instead of balking and having to be led.  He enjoyed eating in the front yard and was very calm and happy to be here.

Unfortunately, he was limping, even with boots.  The abscesses he had all of last year and into this one have left scars inside the hoof wall and sole.  As they grow out, they are beginning to crack and crumble exposing the nerve endings underneath.  In the field, he isn't limping, but on the road, he certainly was.   So, I haven't ridden him in awhile as a result.

He still has been quite playful in the field though.  Certainly feeling his oats so I brought the camera out hoping to capture his antics but instead found he had a surprise for me instead.

Note the two distinctly different colors of his hoof in the video near the end.  The top half, is all good foot.  The bottom half is brittle crumbly foot.  So, another six to 9 months at least of dealing with this to go.

But he is happy and thriving in spite of it all.
